Zeynep Altinay is assistant professor at Iona College teaching undergraduate courses in digital literacy and graduate courses in technology for public relations. Her research focuses on social and political implications of environmental communication. She studies the strategic use of communication processes to foster environmental sustainability. She is currently investigating how different images engage diverse audiences and shape public perceptions on rising sea levels, coastal land loss, and climate change in coastal landscapes. Because the investigation of environmental issues needs to address the underlying scientific causes and associated risks, her work often features science and risk communication. She worked as a science journalist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
